City Installs Energy Efficient Lighting

In a cost saving move, our new Economic Development Director, Cathy Hamilton led an initiative to survey and identify City property where new efficient LED lighting should be installed. Working with Ameren and the Jarvis Company the city was able to do the installation at no cost. The energy saving opportunity was passed along to the Port Authority District. Together that equals a savings of $300,000 in energy costs.

Tree Inventory Coming to Granite City

In September, don’t be surprised to see Arborists walking our streets looking at trees. The City has received a grant through the Heartland Conservatory to inventory 1800 trees in our city. They will identify the existing trees in the selected areas and provide recommendations for new plantings. The grant could also provide funds for trees to be planted in the recommended planting areas.
