Granite City Cool Cities Mission Statement
“Our goal is to cultivate a deeper understanding of the idea of sustainability and inspire participation in community collaborative efforts toward a Greener Cleaner Granite City.”
Membership of the Granite City Cool Cities Committee include: Representatives from city government, residents, businesses, steel workers, ministers and local churches as well as other organizations.
Granite City Cool Cities Committee is a participant in The Green Business and Green Cities Challenge in partnership with the Missouri Botanical Gardens and St. Louis Regional Chamber of Commerce. This initiative began with businesses joining in to improve their business by becoming more sustainable and saving energy.
Later a green city track was added to encourage local governments to incorporate sustainability policy and practice fundamentals in order to become more viable and sustainable communities. Yearly fees for this initiative are paid by the Madison County Planning & Development Dept.
