The Granite City Community Garden has entered another year of producing vegetables for local residents. The garden is located on the 2100 block of Missouri Avenue and features a pavilion, an extensive irrigation system, and a solar panel. The garden is made possible through the dedication of a core group of volunteers from the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) and organized by Jeff Rains, the indispensable engine behind the
garden. The garden is also used as a TWIGS site which provides free lunches to kids everyday during summer break. The garden can always use volunteers to assist with planting, harvesting and weeding. To find out more about the community garden or the TWIGS program please contact Jeff Rains at jrains4usw@aol.com.
